Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Your kid is a teen,
And life sucks for you.
Teens don’t clear the table,
They don’t make the beds,
They sit in their rooms,
Watching TikTok instead.
They scroll through their phones,
And SnapChat their friends,
They scoff at your rules,
And don’t make amends.
They eat all your food,
And leave a big mess,
And don’t walk the dog,
And couldn’t care less.
They say you don’t matter,
You don’t understand,
They think you’re uncool,
And disregard plans.
They smile for their friends,
And can be polite,
When wanting permission,
To stay overnight.
But thank you they won’t,
They don’t care a bit,
They could give a rat’s ass,
They don’t give a s***.
So what should you do,
When your teen is this way?
All sh**y and nasty
On Valentine’s Day?
Remember they love you,
And give them a kiss,
And watch as they squirm
And wriggle and hiss.
Just leave me alone!
They will protest and shout,
And then kiss them again.
That’s what love’s all about.
Happy Valentine’s Day!

To protect my clients’ privacy when I write about them, I change identifying details and circumstances. In addition, I sometimes create amalgams for the purpose of bringing forth universal themes from individual situations. I hope this approach allows readers to hear echoes of their own experience in the stories of others.
My intention in sharing snippets of other people’s struggles is to provide comfort to all the lonely parents out there who think they suck.
LOVE this! 💖 Thank you!
